Summary
The phrase “Blue Water Cruiser” is often misused but in the case of the Malo 40 this suits her perfectly. Extremely well built, this go anywhere sailing yacht has the ‘Classic' layout with extra aft deck space, additional lazarette locker and additional storage lockers throughout the boat which will allow sufficient amount of equipment and spares to allow you to cruise happily for months with no worry about batterypower due to the 280W solar array. Below decks is a joy to behold with 2 generous cabins, 2 heads with holding tanks and quality furnishings. Reliable and economical inboard Yanmar 4JH54 will cruise happily at 6 knots should the wind die. Easy to handle sail plan with roller furling headsail and in mast furling main. All standing and running rigging replaced in 2023. New suit of Sanders sails. Comprehensive electronics package including AIS, radar and Echomax radar target enhancer. Full cockpit enclosure NEW 2023. Hull topsides polished, hull antifouled, and anodes replaced in June 2025.
Mechanical
Vessel powered by a Yanmar 4JH54E inboard diesel engine. This 4-cylinder work horse is fresh water cooled via a heat exchanger that will provide hot water when on passage. The engine is situated beneath the solid companionway steps with easy access to both front, back and side making servicing and daily checks very easy indeed. Talking of servicing, the most recent was in April 2024 and the spares are on board ready for this years service. The engine has only completed 1188 hours which equates to a measly 75 hours a year.
Reduction gearbox driving a stainless-steel shaft and a three bladed folding 'Flex O Fold' propeller. The propeller shaft is protected by a moulded skeg on the hull. New cutlass bearing fitted 2024
Engine start panel mounted in a cockpit coaming adjacent to the wheel. Audible and visual warning lights on panel for temperature, oil pressure and charging. Single lever morse control mounted on steering binnacle.
Electrical
12/240V power on board. Bank of 3x12 batteries providing power to the anchor windlass, bowthruster and onboard systems. There is a single 12V crank battery for engine start. All batteries replaced in 2023. In true Malo design, the 12/240V distribution panel is a thing of beauty with illuminated and fused selector switches.
Batteries are fitted with selector switches and are recharged via the engine alternator, the highly efficient 280W solar panels or the onboard smart charger. There are 240V, 12V and USB charging points throughout the boat interior and cockpit. Onboard Mastervolt battery charger. Sterling Pro-Save E galvanic isolator
Rigging
Selden deck stepped anodised aluminium, twin spreader mast and boom with rodkicker. Stainless steel standing rigging replaced in 2023. The shrouds are situated inboard allowing easy access around the decks for the crew. Lower sections of the shrouds are fitted with protective aluminium covers which prevent damage to the sails. Roller furling headsail system with furling line and sheets led aft to helm. In mast furling mainsail with vertical battens. Electric Self-tailing winches within easy reach of helm makes shorthanded sailing a reality. Additional halyard winches mounted on mast.
Sails are by Sanders in DP084 Vectron and include a vertically battened furling main and a roller reefing headsail with UV strip. The Sanders main was new in 2023, and the Sanders genoa was purchased 2021 but not used until 2023. There is a spare suit of serviceable sails from 2009.
