Summary
J 105 from 2002 for sale
Introduced in 1995 as the first modern day keelboat with bow-sprit and asymmetric spinnaker, the J/105 has become a legendary design. A fun and forgiving performance boat that is easy to sail, the J/105 offers low maintenance with a simple layout, has great performance, a large cockpit, predictable handling characteristics and makes no pretences of being a distance cruiser or live-aboard.
There is less to maintain as all the extra cabinetry and weight of things you won't use aren't there. So instead of varnishing toe-rails and troubleshooting systems you'll be enjoying a sail with friends. With less demands placed on you and your crew J105 is more fun to own.
Plus, J/105 offers offshore capability and weekend accommodations for the occasional overnight. The bowsprit and asymmetric spinnaker system make downwind sailing simple for two people and requires fewer crew for racing. The J/105 has also proven to be a great entry point for double-handed racing and has won the RORC Yacht of the Year and scored notable double-handed wins in the Rolex Fastnet Race and the Rolex Middle Sea Race.
Scrumpy (under here previous name of ‘Juliette’) has competed in 3 previous Fastnet races in 2017, 2019 and 2021. And since the current owners have owned the boat, she has raced at Royal Cork Week in 2024 where she achieved a creditable 4th in IRC2.
Scrumpy J has had significant upgrades under the current owners and has a strong existing sail wardrobe and is ‘race ready’.
