Accommodation
Deck Layout:
The cockpit is both comfortable and functional, with long bench seats on either side, high coamings for back support and an upgraded fixed table with folding leaves amidships. The split twin-wheel helm allows easy access to the stern, where a large fold-down swim platform facilitates immediate access to the water. The transom is well engineered, with a clever hydraulic hinge that increases resistance as you drop the platform, so that it doesn’t fall flat all at once.
Below Deck:
Configured in the popular and upgraded three-cabin layout, offering a particularly practical and spacious accommodation arrangement for cruising with family or guests. The interior makes very good use of the yacht’s volume, with the two generous aft cabins, a large forward owner’s cabin, two heads and a comfortable, sociable saloon.
Entering the saloon from the companionway, the main living area is bright and open, with a large U-shaped seating arrangement to port surrounding a substantial dining table with centreline seat. The dinette comfortably accommodates up to seven people, making it well suited to entertaining or family meals. The settee also provides useful additional sleeping accommodation for an occasional guest when required. There is good natural light and ventilation throughout the saloon, while the surrounding lockers and cupboards provide ample storage for cruising equipment, provisions and personal belongings. The linear galley is positioned along the port side. It is well equipped for extended cruising, incorporating a 2-bruner gas hob with oven, refrigerator, and microwave oven, together with useful worktop space and storage. It's position keeps the galley separate from the main seating area while still allowing the cook to remain connected with those in the saloon.
Opposite the galley, to starboard, is a good-sized forward facing navigation/chart table area, providing a dedicated and practical workspace for passage planning. There is generous storage associated with the chart table, allowing charts, cruising guides, instruments and other navigation equipment to be kept close at hand. The second heads compartment is positioned opposite to port, conveniently serving the saloon and aft cabins and used in the main as a 'day heads' with Jabsco toilet, sink, and shower.
Moving aft, the yacht has two separate double cabins beneath the cockpit, one to port and one to starboard. Both are arranged as proper sleeping cabins rather than simply occasional berths and offer a surprisingly good level of space for a 40-foot cruising yacht. The aft cabins benefit from well-planned dressing areas, useful lockers and storage, and a good degree of vertical clearance above the double berths. This makes them comfortable for longer stays aboard rather than merely being used as occasional guest accommodation.
Forward of the saloon is the large owner’s stateroom, which occupies the full forward section of the yacht. The cabin provides a generous double berth together with good surrounding floor space, storage and dressing areas. A key feature of this three-cabin arrangement is the dedicated en-suite heads compartment with Jabsco sea toilet, sink, and shower, giving the owner greater privacy and convenience while leaving the aft heads available for guests and daytime use.
Overall, the layout is exceptionally well suited to cruising, combining three proper sleeping cabins with two heads, a well-equipped linear galley, a sociable U-shaped saloon and a dedicated navigation area. The arrangement provides an excellent balance between owner comfort, guest accommodation, storage and practical living space, making the Bavaria 40 Cruiser Avantgarde particularly versatile for both family cruising and longer passages.
