Summary
‘Jolly Rogger’ is a fine example of the ketch rigged Rogger 36. Although designed by Dick Lefeber this is not to be confused with the Rogger 35 which I believe featured a separate aft cabin and a dinette.
This Rogger 36 was built by Stangate Marine of Littlehampton in 1979 and is now looking for new custodians to share fresh adventures. The boat has had many significant upgrades over the years but has retained her motor sailor DNA. White GRP hull, light gray painted nonslip decks and a beautifully finished teak interior. Large companionable wheelhouse with great visibility, berths for 6 over two cabins and saloon and a comprehensive electronic navigation aids package including radar.
Vessel powered by a 2005 inboard Yanmar 3JH4E diesel. Brand new windlass. Hull antifouled ready for the season.
Mechanical
Vessel powered by a 2005, Yanmar 3JH4E, 40hp inboard Yanmar diesel. This 3-cylinder workhorse is mounted beneath the saloon floor is a sound proofed compartment allowing easy access for daily checks and servicing. Engine is given an annual service at the end of each season so that it sits with fresh oil in it over the Winter. Engine start panel at helm with key start and full engine instrumentation including rev counter, hour meter, temperature and charging. Separate gauges for rudder angle, fuel and charging. Single lever engine control.
Oil cooled reduction gearbox driving stainless steel shaft and 3-bladed bronze propeller. Prop and shafted protected by both a steel skeg connected to the rudder and a rope cutter.
Hydraulic steering with beautifully varnished wooden spoked steering wheel.
Electrical
12/240V systems onboard with a bank of 3x12V batteries providing engine start and domestic power. These were replaced earlier this year and are fitted with isolators. The batteries are recharged via the engine alternator or the onboard 240V battery charger. 12V switch panels at dashboard with fused and illuminated selector switches.
12V lighting in all cabins and saloon. 12/240V sockets for appliances. Shore power including cable.
Rigging
Ketch rigged motor sailor with deck stepped aluminium main and mizzen masts. Roller furling headsail, in mast furling mainsail and conventional slab reefing mizzen sail. Mainsheet track situated out of the way on the coach roof. Mizzen boom is high allowing the crew to use the cockpit with ease. All lines led aft to cockpit making her a very easy boat to sail short handed.
Lewmar self-tailing 2-speed genoa sheet winches and Lewmar halyard winches. Winches serviced in 2025. There is a plethora of winch handles.
Vessel rigged for spinnaker/cruising chute with associated rigging and poles. There is no sail.

Accommodation
Anyone familiar with motor sailors will agree that there is always some compromise to be had with either the cockpit or the wheelhouse. Either the cockpit is barely useable for two persons, or the wheelhouse is cramped and a bit agricultural.
This Rogger 36 is a different animal and features a cockpit that is both easy to get into and once there, roomy enough to share with other people. There are two good sized teak topped lockers with a very handy flip up table on which to place your morning cuppa.
Entering the wheelhouse by the recently painted and space saving, sliding door the first thing that strikes you apart from the 6’ plus headroom, is the acres of well maintained and stained teak. This is either attached to the ceiling in strips, as solid pieces onto which you can grab or in veneer form covering the various bulkheads. Large L-shaped seating area to starboard with a shorter settee to port with a central drop leaved table containing a bottle rack. The upholstery is smart easy clean ‘Mocha’ leatherette to both settees, helm seat and navigators perch.
Huge side windows allow lots of natural light into the saloon but can be made cosy by closing the curtains of an evening. There is even a 12V flatscreen TV to while away the hours if storm bound in harbour.
Moving forward and three steps down from the saloon is the lower accommodation, galley and heads compartment.
Staryting with the galley this is situated along the port side. There are plentiful easy clean work/preparation surfaces, lots of good storage cupboards above and below the worktops and two opening port lights for ventilation. Central gimbal mounted Flavel gas fuelled oven with 2-burner hob and grill. Stainless steel sink with pressurised hot and cold water delivered via a mixer tap. The 12V fridge is situated in the wheelhouse but can be easily accessed without climbing the steps.
Opposite the galley is the heads with partially vented louvered door, opening port, Jabsco marine toilet with ‘Twist’n’lock’ handle, oval sink with pull out shower head and shower sump pump. This whole area is easy clean laminate with teak trim in excellent condition.
Next to the heads is the mid-ships cabin featuring two good sized bunks. They are over six foot long and wide enough to accommodate adults of varying girths. Again, there are opening ports for light and ventilation. The hull is carpet lined which increases comfort and minimises condensation. 12V deck head and reading lights.
In the bow is the large V-berthed cabin with infill. The upholstery is comfortable foam covered in easy clean red leatherette. The hull sides are covered in carpet and there is storage above and below the bunks. There is a large hanging wardrobe for clothes. Louvered doors let in additional ventilation and help keep the boat dry. 12V lights throughout.
Construction
This yacht was built by Stangate Marine of Littlehampton. Littlehampton has produced some exceptional craft over the years and was the home of Halmatic who produced both pleasure and military craft.

Hull topsides and underwater areas were polished and antifouled in April 2025. Navy blue coveline stripe at hull to deck join. Hull join is finished in solid teak rub rail.
Handy cutaway section midships make alongside boarding much easier. Raised foredeck finished in light grey nonslip increases head height in cabins and galley.
Solid teak anchor windlass mount with New Lofrans manual winch with both rope and chain gypsies. Bow fitting with roller.
Stainless steel stanchions and bow rails conjoined by double set of coated guard wires.
