Summary

The Centaur was one of the most popular boats that Westerly ever built. They built in the region of 2,400  between 1969 and 1980 which is testament to the brand. Penned by famous designers Laurent Giles the Centaur appealed to both the family cruiser and the lone yachtsman. The design had it all, with a cockpit space more in keeping with a 30 footer, a choice of interior layouts to suit individual needs and a keel configuration that allowed drying harbours and estuaries to be explored. She sailed not too badly either and handled herself admirably in a blow.
'First Endeavour' is a particularly good example and has been lovingly maintained and upgraded by her custodians over the years. This includes a full renovation of the interior including new internal joinery, fully reupholstered, teak decks, a 2014 Beta MD20 engine, 2017 sails which are pristine and crisp and brand new headlining.
Comprehensive electronic navigation equipment including log/speed/depth, DSC VHF and chart plotter.

Mechanical

Vessel is powered by a reliable and economical Beta 20, Marine diesel. This was installed in 2014 and has only completed 90 hours. Engine start panel in cockpit with digital hour meter and visible/audible alarms for charging, oil pressure, and water temperature. Single lever engine control with forward and reverse gearing. Reduction gearbox driving a stainless steel shaft and 3-bladed bronze propeller. Engine serviced in 2024

Electrical

Smart battery charger shore power system with bank of 3x12V batteries fitted with isolators. Within the last 10 years the vessel has been completely rewired and new fuse panels installed.

  • Hi-Tec Smart Battery Charger/Shore Power unit
  • Blue Sea rotary battery isolators
  • Digital Battery Voltage Monitor
  • 3-Pin sockets
  • 12V/USB charging ports

Rigging

Bermudan sloop rigged yacht with deck stepped gold anodised aluminium spars. Stainless steel standing rigging is older than 10 years but has done little. The mast was rewired and new cable deck glands installed for lighting and VHF. Tack-Tick wireless instruments installed.
All running rigging in braid on braid in good condition. The majority is led aft to the cockpit via a series of turning blocks and deck organisers. Andersen 2-speed self tailing winches either side of companionway and in cockpit within easy reach of helm. Mainsheet track mounted aft on coaming keeps cockpit uncluttered.
Mainsail, purchased in 2017 and still in excellent condition. Roller furling genoa and Cruising chute in good condition. Vessel rigged for spinnaker including pole.
